I am a NOOB with questions...help please.

I have read about the sig points and understand that the more your post, the more you reply to, the more sigs you help people with...the more sig point you get. Then you can buy status and sigs with it. Am I getting this right? Also, I have clicked on my profile, but can't seem to find how many pts I have acquired or how you trade them....please help.
