Ok once you have your path finished and closed go to the path dialog and venture down to the bottom of the window, you should see a series of buttons you want to click on the pink square. Once you have done that you should have a line moving around your path that may look like a bunch of marching ants lol. Then you want to press on your keyboard Ctrl+I to invert your selection then depending on what version of gimp you have do as follows:

In Gimp 2.2: Go Ctrl+K strait after you have inverted your selection to clear everything around your selection.

In Gimp 2.4 or later: Go Edit>Clear or just press Delete on your keyboard to clear everything around your selection.

Also to save you the trouble of Rendering a Stock you can go to various render sites such as Planet Renders where pros have often Rendered the stock for you to save the time and trouble of doing it yourself.

Yea I agree with what storm said, if you are about to render a stock, always check on planetrenders or gamerenders or whatever to check that it isnt already there. It will save you alot of time and hassle :)

Thanks I hope I helped
