with the current inflow of new members and sig makers, i decided to revive this great competition designed by etha.

Basic signature Competition (beginners only)

This competition will be run weekly by myself, Etha and wolf.
It's an opportunity for beginners to learn and improve their sig making skills.

Here are the rules:

1) You can only join in only if you class yourself as a beginner and want to learn and improve your skills.

2) Signatures must not be over 400x150.

3) You must include your username on the signature.

4) Everyone must use the same render given and chosen by the runner of the comp...wolf.
The render will be varied each week.

5) The competition will run from Monday to Friday.

6) During this time, once a signature has been submitted, everyone on the forum (beginner or advanced) can comment on the signatures posted and feel free to advise them on what to change to improve it.

7) Signatures can be changed up untill you are happy with the final result. But must be completed by Friday.

8.) Voting will be Saturday untill Sunday.

9) Anyone can vote...(beginner or advanced).

10) You must NOT vote for your own signature.

11) There are no points involved whatsoever. This is just to learn.

12) Have Fun =]

I agree with the comp, if Etha is aware and has approved then it's fine. Good initiative. I like it.

I'm sure we can rustle up a lil bit of somthin somthin for the winner, but Entry can remain free.

That was the best Yoruichi render you could find...that's to bad. Wish I could enter this but I don't think that I'm a beginner...

I don't think im good with this type of render, so i'm not entering.

The render looks like it has a broken back. I like Ferahgo's better.

Ok, this is my first sig ever, made with what tiny amount of photoshop knowledge I have at the moment. Be gentle, but critique away. I know it needs a border but I don't yet know how to do that! I know the deadline has past but I'm hoping for some input anyway. I plan to enter each week now for practice.

Marolynn, I'm stunned that is your first siggy. You did very well :D

Kinda hoping there is more beginner contests out there for us. If there isn't how about you and I do some? :D

Marolynn

Yes! I'm hoping this becomes a constant weekly thing. Thanks for the kind words. I'm taking graphic design classes so I'd like to be able to do something each week to practice what I'm learning. It looks like the newbie thing sort of faded out due to lack of interest, but hopefully it's back with a vengeance. :D

Pass out the "proud to be a newbie buttons" this area needs to be revitalised!

Ya know, you could post nebie challanged based on what you learn in your classes. Not only could you practice what you are learning, but spread out the wealth to others. Just a lil thought.

do we get to put new entry's or do we have to live with our old ones? :(

no, this comp was just going to run for a fortnight to spread the word around abot the comp
feel free to edit your previous signature, but the render which you used is the one for BSC 6.
(or in other words, this weeks comp.)
sry about the confusion!

Raditz

woohoo...just to make it clear,we can remake the sigs if we want,BUT they have to be the same render as before? :D

yeah! but remember the render changes with every new BSC.
with the editing, that way the Comments more experienced members made for your sig etc can help you to improve!
this competition is for the newer members and designers to gain some experience in competitions as well as improving!

Really, REALLY did not like this render. It's hard to get my head around what to do with it. :? That's the wonderful part of a challenge, trying ot work outside your comfort zone.

Ben, perhaps you were thinking, "wonder if I really can lick my own elbow?", or you decided to enter here like the rest of us that want to get better at sig making? :D

If you were thinking about the elbow, it's impossible. If it was the second thought, you are in the right area. Play, be creative, don't be afraid to try, have happy accidents and just be you. With some practice, feedback and a wonderful site to help inspire, we all can get better.

First thing do need to point out is the size of your siggy. It's height is 175 pixels, when the challange is to make a siggy under 400 by 150. So you might want to reduce the height to fit within that.

To add a lil intrest to the scan lines, try erasing a few, especially on her face. Reducing the opacity of the scan layer can help out as well.

Loving the colors in your siggy. It's bright and eye catching.

These are just my humble opinions. Hope some of the veteran siggy makers pop in and give us beginners some tips.

Keep on with the good work Ben. Want to see what else you come up with.

lol yeah is just annoying i've never been any good at challenges even with paint shop pro lol

it's slightly higher yes but it's only 360 wide ;)

i did try the scan lines are a layer beneath the top render and nothing would get rid ov em over the face area lol

thanks the background took ages just messing about with filters and wotnots lol ;)
