The Basics. Anyone up for a new kind of challenge?

So, I used to go to Worth1k, and they held these contests in the beginners section, and every once in a while there would be a "B2B" Contest, (Back to Basics). It was just as the title said, it gave yo a pic and told you to do whatever you wanted with it.

And it was fun until people told the beginners they sucked. :(

So I figured, there ain't much going on right now, so it could be a fun thing to do in your spare time! I, or whoever starts it could post the pic to be used, and at the end we could vote to see who had the best and how the others could have been better.

Would anyone be up for a contest like this?

(BTW, I was debating which forum to put this in (the suggestion and feedback or the contest one, but I chose to do the contest one because...eh it's a contest, lol. Move it if it belongs somewhere else =] )

yeah, i think thats great. I think first though you would have to set up some specific rules for it, like, only beginers can enter...you need to define what you mean by beginers too, and place other rules in there too similar to sotw comps...but yeah, i love the idea, i think its a great way for beginers to learn and compete. Lets see how this poll goes, im certain everyone will love the idea...then ill be happy to help you start it off, ill send you my msn address if you like to help talk through the rules and stuff. :D

LOL I wouldn't advise setting the entrant requirement on rank here because that is based on how many posts the member has made here, and so it could be a very experienced photoshopper / gimp user ect but only got a few posts so has the low enough rank ?

I think if this is what you're all after doing then a panel needs to be set up of members who everyone else can send their work into and that panel of members then would have to decide who was at what level with their preferred programme for them to then be able to enter or not enter ..

If thats the case then you should have a beginner / novice / expert sotw then ?

But yeah i agree on the ranking not such a good idea.
Well for now, lets just hear everyones ideas on this and then we can see what we can come up with.

its a good idea but just like some 1 said we need to class people depending on their work not how many posts they hve

so this is wt i think
we shud hve a subforum or stickied thread like " get Classed"
and people can display their work there
and dependin on their skill/xperience lvl
other users ( can b a set group of peaple ) wud class them
and a Class field cud b created in profile to show evry 1s class

sounds like alot of work for the admins :roll:

no thats not a lot of work :

1. beginner
2. novice
3. moderate
4. intermediate
5. semi pro
6. pro

I'm a classer and admin at a well visit forum and we only need 5 classers

setup a forum based on this :

Rules
To be classed you need to post at least 5 of YOUR signatures in a new thread. (Collabs are only allowed if you have atleast 5 signatures of your own and you mention it is a collab.) There will be a limit of maximum 10 signatures. LP's are not taken into account for classing.

After that, people allowed to class will give your work an overall ranking. To receive a rank you need at least 4 classers to vote the same. In some rare cases where the opinions are very mixed one of the head classers will decide your class.

The ranks you can be given are the following: Beginner -> Novice -> Moderate -> Intermediate -> Semi-pro -> Professional

You can change your current rank the same way you received it but you must wait at least 30 days before requesting for a reclass.

Things you aren't allowed to do:
- If you are NOT allowed to class and are NOT the person wishing to be classed, you may NOT reply to ANY thread In this forum!
*Note: For a list of the classing team please refer to the staff section.
- You are NOT allowed to ask to be reclassed before the 30 day rule.

- You are NOT allowed to disagree about your rank and argue with the classing team.

Breaking these rules will be followed by a warning or a temporary/permanent ban. The rules apply to members, VIP members and staff members alike.
