This is my first tut so go easy on me.
1)Open up a new image. Make background white. 380x150

2)Now get your render fill up the whole box.

3)Now go to filters>noise>pick and put the settings to Random Seed:3451628087 and Randomization and Repeat both to 100

4)Now go to filters>blur>motion blur and put the settings to Blur Type:Linear Blur Parameters: Lenth 26 and Angle 126

5)Now go to filters>enhance>sharpen Now set the settings to 57.

6)Now put your render in. If its very big resize it to make it fit.

Hopefully this can give a start to people who are new at gimp.
Post some outcomes.

hey doom...... may i make a suggestion...........? borbers always put lot of depth onto a sig............
black lines of 5 or above pixels on either side might look nice...........
also, if u have a nice grunge brush, few black grunge effects here and there might look nice.............
but nice tuts............ thumbs up........... :)

few sets of grunge,abstract, vector brushes will come in handy...........
also look for esplosion, splatter,blood,metalchaotic brushes............
ps. if ur using gimp 2.4, u can also use photoshop brushes..........

1.monkeyking just open up gimp
2.click open
3.serch for render
4.then resize it by going to image-scale image
5.go to edit-copy
6.then go to where you wanna put it and click edit-paste

i have created one but i dont know how to upload it again...some people said i save it as a .bmp so i can upload them but i cant...help

Save it as .jpg
Save it as .jpg
I would save it as .png, it's saves image transparency and has better quality then .jpg ;)

I was following the tuturial. My question begins at step 6. My image is in a white box. Yours is "carved out". I don't know if that's the right terminology or not. But how do I get my image "in a box" to look like yours?

the pic when its carved out is called a render its a pic with a transparrent background you can get them from places like these

Good instructions, I just started 2 hours ago and was able to follow this without a problem!
Here's what I made:

This was very useful, even though I do not use gimp, I use paint.net.
