Bingo,

When you have a series of images ie one picture for each frame of the aimation, then you can make them into a GIF with any animation software. I personally use JASC Animation Shop 3, its eons old but works very well. Just use the animation wizard, its very straighforward.

C4D has no "save as GIF" function

Once you do the keyframes thing,

render it as an AVI file and then open in Photoshop.

Then click on Save as Web Device and set as GIF,no?

Photoshop CS2 and above have ImageReady merged with it.

Or did you mean something else?

like KRS25 said it comes with photoshop you can decide that do you want to install it or no when installing PS...
so you should watch your installing package again ;)

No lol. It's part of Photoshop CS2/3/4 , you don't have a choice.

Why would you even want to take out the animation feature ?:P

PS CS2+ will do the job man, no need to get any fancy programs or specialty programs. I do all my animation conversions to gifs in PS CS4.

Bingo,

If all you want to do is turn a series of images into a GIF then PS / Imageready will do fine.

If you want to do something a little more like making and layering several animations into a single file then the animation limitations of PS / Imageready will make life very complicated. Things like this:

http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee227/407370/many1.gif

are a breeze when you use something like JASC ANIMATION SHOP 3.

If you want to convert FLV files on YOUTUBE into GIF then a converter software like TOTAL VIDEO CONVERTER will make life a lot easier. Adobe Flash CS4 is a wee bit of overkill unless you want to make FLV files as well.

What software you use is determined by the use you want to put it to. Try them all and find a process that you are happy with.
