View Full Version : Considering Something...

Well, I finally have a good job this summer, and I'm heading to college start August, but it struck me the other day that I can't bring my family's Wii to college. I need something else, something that has good games and online play, something like... a 360. So, I am at the moment debating whether to get one or not, and whether to get XBL with it at the same time. I'm mainly doing this because of The Force Unleashed(die-hard graphics are worth the system), but with Halo 3 and GTA IV on the side, as well. Should I go through with this, or should I just save up for something useless, like a new car or a better dorm

I think if you want to really get your money's worth, you should go get a PS3.
It's the most futureproof system of three. You get Blu-Ray for 500$. The games right now might not be all that good but Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 are coming soon:D

P.S. Don't forget Little Big Planet too :D

Well, OK, PS3 is nice because the games are blue-ray and are more resistant to wear, but seriously... blue-ray isn't all that it's cracked up to be. A little better graphics, that's all it's good for. I don't think it's worth the price to buy a PS3 yet. But then again, if you go for a 360, there is a great chance that it'll get the red rings and then you'll have to go a month or 2 without one. Pick your poison.

Why would it go red ring so quickly? I would probably have 1 hour a week to play anyways.

Besides, I've been able to actually cure the red ring.

Hey, you never know! It only seems to do it when you really want to play it. And the "temporary cure" is as it is, temporary. You're going to get sick of doing it all the time. But like I said, either way.

Dont worry the newer versions of the 360's are getting less and less red rings, not to mention i have a first generation xbox and have yet to get the red rings...knock on wood lol :P

lol

My cure was to put it in my cold garage for 15 minutes. It worked. LOL

I don't think I want a PS3, it really doesn't appeal to me for some reason. Maybe it's because I'm so used to the 360 that getting a PS3 would throw me outta wack or something.

yeah i agree the xbox 360 just feels right to me aswell. I have played the ps3 a few times and i personally think it is no fun. But your solution seemed to work well i might have to use it if i ever get the rings. -- Oh by the way the 360 has a free 3 year warranty for the red rings now :P

Now what about XBL? I can afford it, so that wouldn't be the problem. Is it worth it, though?

XBox 360 all the way, and they did fix the problem which was the soddered components were getting to hot on the Heat sink and then the Connection was falling apart but now most of the news systems are fine.

I have a first generation 360 and same as baller I have not recieved the Red ring of death and I play every weekend (fri, sat, sun) all night from 8pm-3am so yeah its still working for me.

I love the games 360 has. I believe The PS3 is just over hyped by people who feel bad that they spent their savings account on a system that isnt that much better than a 360. I dont really care or need a "blu Ray" I am fine with a regular dvd.

As for XBL, I really really love having it, you can download a game demo to see if you will even like the game and then purhcase it. I bought a couple of sports games that way, becuase I was able to compare 2k8 and Ea sports Basketball etc. Playing SHooters and SPorts games On XBL is so fun!

i say get a ps3, if your getting the pro package, the ps3 is only $50 more and it does so much more. music, video, movies, and games.

That was a little redundant... videos and movies generally serve the same purpose :)

jeff sumed it up perfectly. xbox live is totally worth it, and the 360 is amazing.

you can dl game demos for free on ps3 also, in fact I wouldn't say that they are free for 360 since you have to pay for x-box live.......

I personally love my ps3 and no, I didn't spend my savings account to get it, lol

blu ray has more memory than hd-dvd which is why it is better, comparing blu-ray to a dvd is like comparing a dvd to a cd :|

if you guys think the graphics are better on ps3 now, then wait five years when developers actually have a better knowledge of it, I mean look at first gen ps2 games compared to last gen ones.

if you think ps3 is to high a price, then I would say so is the 360 and you should buy a ps2 or a used x-box (I say used because microsoft has a thing about ditching "out of date" hardware and software)

but since your going to college I would advise you to get a good laptop!!!

at my college I sat in class with my laptop out for taking notes and/or playing around if the lesson sucked, lol

To be honest, I would avoid video games in college. Rather, you should go to the gym or parties or take a easy general education class and meet some people. (Ignore all that if you have a girlfriend or boyfriend already). But I guess if you have some extra spare time, go with a cheap system (snes, nes, sega, n64, gamecube, ps1, xbox, etc.) (people can be thieves in the dorm).

LOL

I don't have to worry about my social life much. I yes have a girlfriend, been going for nearly 4 years now. I don't think I need the gym; I was second in class for nearly all the weightworks at school. And parties? Already begun.

I got one already lol, and I agree, it's awesome. 8 years and still going. I'm proud of it.

Hell, I got an N64 from '93 that still runs. Not well, but runs. ;)
