i think that drusg in sport is a big issue.
there are 2 sides to this issue, 1 recreational drusg and 2- performance enhancing drugs
i think that if a player is taking/took performance enhancing drusg then he/she should be banned and publicly humiliated.
but if someone takes recreational drugs it shouldnt be such an issue and shouldnt be made public. people say that they are sposd to be role models so shouldnt be doing these drugs.. but if it wasnt made public all the time it wouldnt be an issue...
the biggest case atm in australia is ben cousins from the west coast eagles, i hate the eagles and dislike him but what has happened to him is disgusting imo
last year ben cousins came forward that he had a drug addiction (he was never tested positive by his team, the afl or the police BUT he has been put to shame, his career is basicly over and for what? all because he had a large social life, which imo is none of our business. he has therefore been the centre of attention being on the news multiple times, and i mean ALOT of times, been falsy arrested a number of times as well, all because of nothing...
any1 else have an opinion of this?

i dont really have an opinion on it but drugs in sports seems to be a growing issue in the us as well many player that are coming forward about it though seem to be getting more popular and getting fatter checks instead of being punished for it like in baseball someone wrote a book about drugs an such and gave a few names of those who used them as well the book made millions while he was only fined like 100k+ and he still plays baseball wtf is wrong with that O_o

I really don't think performance enhancing drugs should be illegal. The two main arguments for it being so is that these players are role models and that it could harm themselves greatly.
You think that recreational drugs wouldn't effect their role model status if they would just keep it under wraps and performance enhancing drugs wouldn't either. If kids were to become aware that their role model is taking a harmful substance it is the parents job to lead their kids straight. Not the players job.
These players are adults. They know the benefits and disadvantages of using these substances and if they choose to do so even with the warnings then so be it. It is their life they are screwing up. Why are we getting involved with their personal matters?

i think they should ban everything even these so called cough medicines that they use for excuses. then there would be no accusations of cheating!

weird , i jsut did a report about this in english , i think performance enhancing drugs should be illegal, how is it fair if one player gets better from using steriods while all the rest do it the right way. Also kids look up to these stars as their idols , if they learn that drugs where involved to their success , what is going to stop them from following that path to achieve what they want? Also the mitchell report named 85ish(give or take a few i cant remember) major league baseball players who were using performance enhancing drugs.
I don't think preformance enhancing drugs should be illegal. Considering why they were made in the first place (many children born way before our times had a problem where parts of their bodies would just stop growing and nobody knew what to do about it. Finally someone the drug to get those body parts back up and running and growing and all around preforming better. And just like any other drug made for medicinal purposes the public got their hands on it only this time it was the athletes.)
It's not our place to tell someone how they should live, which is why I say they shouldn't be illegal. But I don't think that an athelete should be cheating that way. It's just not professional. Plus, if they all do it, then nobody's cheating, right?
As for the children that look up to them as role models....come on. Kids these days are about 50 times(hyperbole) more mature than our parents were at their age, and their parents at theirs. Ever since the day we hit preschool we have people bugging and nagging and pushing and telling us that drugs are bad. I don't know about other schools but in my school system DARE is a class that must be taken for three years in elementary. Not that anyone really gives what DARE thinks in the first pplace...but meh.
Anyways, what I'm getting at is that the kids who see their role models cheating are most likely going to do one of two things:
1. Be disappointed for about a week or until the news backs off of that person and either find a new role model or be loyal to theirs.
or
2. Go off on a rant about how stupid said role model was and never trust any adult figure again.
Most of them will probably go into choice one. I did. Paul Byrd? Yeah, he was on my top three of most awesome althetes ever (next to Grady Sizemore and Asdrubal Cabrera *heartthrobs*) because he is probably like the best pitcher I've ever seen. Then we all know what happened...and we lost to the Sox because he wasn't pitching. Oh well, he made a mistake, I forgive him, he's still the best darn pitcher in my eyes.
I think I've ranted enough ^_^

Drugs are bad in just about all times. except when used in medicine to heal. drugs in sports are bad, they need to update detecting process and start banning those detected.

It is a touchy subject. A part of me thinks that it is bad, and people who take them should be banned. But then again, I think that it is solely for entertainment, and I go to be entertained.
However, I don't think that they should be illegal. I think if someone chooses to take them then that is their decision and can suffer the consequences (i.e. DEATH). I also think that If they test positive for roids, their records shouldn't count. I dunno, like I said I'm split on the subject.

Drusg and sport will always be together as long as there is big money involved. Winning something (for exampel the super bowl) insures great deals of money for the team and players...
Im from Belgium (no thats not a joke :p). A few years back in the tour de frace ( a cycling race) there was the Festina affair. Al the team was tested positive for some kind of drusg (can't remember the name but oke). The teamdoctor said in the media its better that i give them the drusg then that they just shoot up. And in a way he is right... You never know what those drusg do with a human body on the long term...
Later there was another great scandal involving drusg. And two years ago the winner of the cycling race lost his first place because he was tested positive for drusg.
So over a period of 7 years not much changed... why? because there's money at the end...
If they want to really hurt someone who has taken drusg? Ban them for life from the sporting circuit and let them pay back wat they earned in price money. That would hurt them...
I'm gonna end my two cents here.

drugs are messed up, they mess up people playing sports they give them an unfair advantage and when they get caught they get into loads of trouble

loads of trouble?? i wish. athletes get away with so much stuff. i've heard of football players testing positive 3 times for drugs and they dont get any sentence and just a minor suspension from the league. if you are caught with performance inhancing drugs or recreational drugs you should get kicked out of whatever sport you are playing. end of story.
