Ever wanted to make those grungy/smudged style bg but feel ur not too good with grunge brushing?
well i am goin to teach u this easy technique where u can make a grunge bg without using any brush or smudging

1. open a new document with ur preferred size and fill it with a solid color from your render
my render has alot of white so i am goin to fill it with white

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd31/AmmocK/step1-1.png

2. Paste in ur render and resize it and move it to the spot you want

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd31/AmmocK/step2-1.png

3.Duplicate your render and move it around, repeat this step untill your whole canvas is filled with your render

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd31/AmmocK/filled.png

4. Create a new layer (layer>New) and do Image>apply Image

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd31/AmmocK/filled.png

5. Now go Filter>Distort>Ripple and ripple it with these settings

Amount 350%
Size Medium
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd31/AmmocK/rippled.png

6. Then ocean ripple that layer, Filter>Distort>Ocean Ripple

Ripple Size: 11
Ripple Magnitude: 8
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd31/AmmocK/orippled.png

7.Then do Filter>Brush Strokes>Spatter

Spray Radius:25
Smoothness: 12
http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd31/AmmocK/bstroked.png

8.[OPTIONAL] you can color it if u like using heu/saturation, dont forget to check colorize when u use heu/saturation on it

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd31/AmmocK/colored.png

and there you have a decent grungy background, you can enhance it by duplicating that layer, moving it around and playin with diff blending modes on diff opacities, but i leave that for you to experiment

hope this helps some ppl out there

Look at this (from another form): http://metanet.2.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=21278&hl=photoshop+sig+tut

He also has another altered version where he does:
filter->distort->displace 3 times with 3 different psd's
filter->distort->ripple with default settings
filter->brush strokes->spatter with default settings

are you stupid??
i came up with these settings/technique myself while playing around with different filters, i wont say that i am the 1st one to come up , the with it. ocean ripple + splatter brush filter is often used to give something a grunge/smudge look
Becareful before posting something like this next time or i will report u to the admins, idiot!

Nice1! Thanks for the info!!

Sorry about this noob question, but which Photoshop would be the best for a noob user? I have Photoshop CS2. And another thing, which is better? Photoshop or GIMP?

Again sorry if i asked such a lame question.
