This may have been posted elsewhere ( since it seems an obvious idea ) but after searching I've failed to find it . . .
When you first come to Sigbar it's easy to get blown away by some of the quality Signatures and Userbars on display ( and if not the quality then the sheer volume ).
As someone who has had the odd go at this sort of thing before and is interested in learning ( when my kids give me half a chance lol ) this can be quite intimidating. I wouldn't dare put one of my poor efforts on display ( even though I know folks wouldn't be anything but supportive ) until I got at least close to what some of you are doing, probably in your sleep . . .
If you had a sticky of everyones first, or at least early, attempts then it might help to take away some of that early overwhelmed feeling.
If one of the premises of the site is to nurture talent or enthusiasm it wouldn't hurt to let them see the evolution that must be involved in getting to where some of you are and if nothing else could encourage them.

There is a thread where people posted their's.
http://www.signaturebar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3729
thats more of a "Hey look how much of a noob I was" kind of thread. All you should do is go to the sig section and post it as being your first. Everyone here knows what it's like to just start out, we all went through it =]

we all certainly did go through it hun, nobody on this site would put anyone down for their first sigs, or any for that matter, i wouldnt let them for starters, it takes a lot of guts to post your first few....everyone here is totally supportive, thats one of the things this site is for, helping beginers, beginers are also more than welcome to fulfill requests if thats what it takes for them to practise.
just go for it hun, the more you do the better you will become and its lovely to look back at how far youve come.
:D:D
post them till your hearts content ! :):)

. . . see, that's a great thread that ArmedCivilian linked to - I would seriously consider making it a Sticky ( although they're far from noob sigs ).
As far as the early attempt bashing goes, I have no doubt that this isn't that type of board, sorry if I gave the impression that I thought it might be!
The (very) few critical posts I have seen have all been of a supportive nature and exchanged between obviously veteran members. Which is exactly what you're probably looking for when you reach that standard :)

Alright I've got to admit that I'm totally blown away by the sigs on this site. Even the beginner ones. Personally I can here to get a sig made but I'd really like to know how to do it myself so I can make more. I've searched the forums only to discover I'm so noob that I'm not even sure where to start, lol. Is there a very basic tutorial for someone who has no experience with even basic use of photoshop or gimp? Ar those even programs you'd recommend? Help!

Yeah Photoshop and the GIMP are the leaders in the graphic program game. I personally use Photshop.
If you can't really understand any tutorials yet I would just click around and try to figure out as much as you can on your own. Like go to every tool click it on a blank canvas to see what it does. Then go to the other sections like filters and edits and whatever to become even more familiarized. If you still can't comprehend a tutorial you might try asking for direct tutoring help.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've been playing around with Gimp since it's the one that I've gotten my hands on. Getting better as far as learning what doe what. One of the things I struggle with when reading tutorials is that I simply don't have a vernacular down so I'mnot sure what people are refering to. An example would a tut. Can't seem to figure that one out exactly or could be I'm a little slow as well. lol =)
Wait....are tuts tutorials?! I may have just got it.
