This is my first attempt at a sig. It's pretty good imo. No borders on it, but when i looked at the tut for borders I came to realize I had no layers in the image. All of the work was done with GIMP. A little bit of image resizing, and a lot of color blending for the effects.

Its very good for a first try, much better than my first attempt (I was using GIMP too).
I agree with the above comments about the render, but here is how you can fix it:
-If you are using a shortcut to resize the image (shortcut CTRL T) hold shift while resizing, the image will retain its shape, but still change size.
-If you are using a toolbar option to resize the image, make sure you have clicked the 'Retain image proportions' box, It may be called something else, but always keep that box clicked while resizing images, it prevents the stretching.
But all in all a good sig, a yellow/orange border would make it special :D try doing it with a border and see what happens.

ALot better then my first sig! Again, I agree with the above two posts and your sig will turn out 100% b-e-a-utifull!

Cool ty guys for the imput.. I can't seem to get the border for some reason.. Can't even find the menu for one. But here is a re-do of the original.. I actually used paint tools to "fix" the stretches in the glowing ball..

yeah, by using layers, you can achieve really effective backgrounds
also, i noticed you have edited it, so now work on more tuts!

Meh.. I'm not getting the "layers" part.. assuming layers are diff pics that can be layed on top of each other, then meshed into a single pic? If that is the case, how do i get a second image to overlay the first?
Diesel, unfortunatly I am using GIMP... name fits i guess.
Here are some more I have done in the past 2 or 3 days.. not great but more and more practice.. All of these were requests. and this is prolly around 1/2 of the total

yeah, sorry, but i cant help you with gimp, lol, i use PS
now, with your sigs, i think you've stretched the render too much.
so work on making it smaller, but not broader etc
