i was trying to help someone else tonight with the exact same problem, and i even did remote assisance so i was controling their computer, but it wouldnt work.....im wondering a few things that could be the problem now.....
1....are you using vista
2...when you make your path, make sure the dots arent too close together so that they may mix together and not make a proper path
3...make sure you press and hold ctrl whilst pressing your i and k

Take a look at the above and lets see if anything works, vista might not have anything to do with it, but once my mate tried to get gimp on her laptop with vista on it and it wouldnt go on, whereas i know it does but may cause some problems.

I tried to use gimp to make a signature once... in fact, I DID make a signature once, but i dont know what the people use here, but its obviously either that they have way more experience or just a better program cuz my sig that i made with gimp SUCKED!

the links i have been giving people used to lead to gimp 2.2 but for some reason now, they take you to gimp 2.4

so i suggest anyone wanting to download 2.2 the more stable version, they google it, or try this link, im not entirely sure if it works though....

http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/old.html

and try the top one

Remember still, you must download the GTK environment. If your setup file worked without you getting the environment you just installed 2.4.

It's out there if you're having trouble. In Google we trust. I just found it earlier.
