I'll try to explain this plainly.

I open a new file in gimp - transparency, or open a jpeg image with the gimp and render the image. Sometimes I'll copy the selcted image to either paste it to another layer, duplicate, or new file. For some reason i cannot do any drawing or erasing or much of anything to any of the images thereafter. what i do end up seeing is a selected image (yellow marching ants) and i can see transparency and a nontransparent portion, even if the other layers are not viewed. Usually with only the background layer can i use the tools.

like when you copy and then paste it says floating layer and wont let you click any more layers?...if so then what you need to do is ok first for copy visible copy visible first then create new layer then select the new layer and paste in there with ctrl+v then you click the anchor button to the right or the new layer icon at bottom of toolbox, then your prob if fixed and when copying only a certain thing make sure you have layers you don't want copied invisible.

hope i helped.i had that problem a long time ago as well.=]

that did the trick.

now if i can only fix the color manipulation bug.

I did that lighsaber tutorial on you tube but the filters/color doesnt' have the color blend option like in tools.
i have figgured out how to adjust the one to get color from the other.

not only that but my wife's mad because all her pics on the pc are now gimped when she tries to upload them to myspace so she gets errors.

cheers
