Gradual tint with GIMP

I need a tut on how to put a gradual tint/blend into a pic on GIMP

Example, from the actual pic into black

Yea, something like that, but only on the bottom

well thts simple
open ur image
now create a new layer and fill it with black
put it on top if its not already
(for giving that effect at the bottom)
take out ur rectangular selection tool and make a selection on the bottom
now go select>feather and feather it by like 20-30, or experiment with different numbere
after that select>inverse
then Edit>clear or Edit>Cut

ur done :P
