Perhaps a suggestion to let the request section for people with postcount +25

loots of newbies hop in : request and leave , I love making gifts but on this way hubster is going to stick to his own work

You sure have loots of members but the activity is zero , make the forums more eyecatching and work on a more professional way.

This site has great potential dont let it die in the request area.

As said making request is fun but if you want to learn PS GIMP or any other program you have to find out yourself with renders and styles you like.

i realised that
i noticed that many register, post there requests, and when they dont get it, there impatient (not that im trying to be rude, etc)
i think 25 is too high though
in addition, you guys have so many requests pouring in its hard to have time to make you own sigs
i think a post count should be put in, but not as high as 25

yes, but if this will come true then people will just spam because if you think it well there aren't much topics that people can participate to gain 25 postcounts in 1 or even 2 days.. or if you make something like this you should put 10 or 15 postcounts.. 25 postcounts are too much...

I agree with u all,u all have a point,as wolf said the post is alot,i think it should be like 5-10-15 post like that? & LoL mabey a section for spamming(almost anything) but i'll doubt this section will be made.,but honestly Signaturebar is popular coz of its request.so yeah... :? if the requester is impatient or a f* then its their problem.gd pt all,i support this. :D ya vry gd idea FOT9!

not necessary spamming.. you could put more sections but not spamming.. visit some other forums, see what they have and bring one or two sections in here.. some sections that people will participate more..

like let's say competitions with minor prizes.. or game zone, movie talk, sex, relations and problems (ok this one is a bit out of the topics but still it's good..)
so people will participate more.. and they won't come only for their earnings.. they will participate, and AFTER they will make requests..

I think 5 or ten would be a better number, and maybe trying to get more people into making them :D that way they will stick around :D

We've had this discussion before and I think a post count would be good now that we're a little more busy... What we decide on in terms of numbers well I think the general vibe im getting is 5-10 if the forums remain the same..

OR get some more general chat and forums going and possibly have it higher... e.g. 15-25 but if anything we could always start on 5 to see how it goes...

A question to the public tho....

What topics would everyone be interested in having in the general forums.. i.e. specific sub forums ?? This should be driven by the users... ?

thanks

spamming if you agree(but with some certain limits)
movie talk.. talking about the movies that we liked so people will know if each movie is good and if it worth downloading it or watching it
the same goes with games, etc...

Ok but i just want to argue one point (Being Devils Advocate)

A) Whats the difference between having a simple general chat forums to having it split into sub forums.. ?

B) Do you really think we have enough variety in the membership to warrant splitting up the main general topic forum ?

The above questions are to everyone :) ???

lokifeyson
11-13-2007, 12:51 PM
I don't think we need to split general chat, that's what it's there for, "general chat".
But I like the idea of maybe putting a section for people to post their website, I figure we make a decent amount of banners for people, and others want to tell us sites they like, it would sort of connect everyone to everyone else's favorite site, and maybe give us some more traffic :D

FOT9_OMONIA

i was sure you would ask.. when the users see general talking they think something general. movies and things that i mentioned don't come to their mind.. i hope you get the way of my thinking..
Because i have 5-6 years experience to forums and making people coming to forums and i studies to my school psychology i will try to find some interesting topics, and sections in 1-2 days because i don't have much time these days..
but first of all we all mus bring new members.. members won't come by their own..

P.S silly question but, this forum is warez free right?

lokifeyson
11-13-2007, 01:11 PM
that's true that most people don't think of topics to talk about, but my question would be how many topics do we feel like adding? a lot?
some examples of topics
movies
games
webpage
anime/cartoons
advice for beginners or photoshop help, gimp help
tv shows
books/comics
jokes
video games

just to toss some out there :D

FOT9: Ok i see your point but i guess its a trial and error thing. If we want to trial this out I suggest we have 5 solid subforums to start with and see how the do over the next 2-3 months....

So if everyone can pitch in and come up with some topics they like we can get started...

LOKI: I think the websites thing is a cool idea ... I like it...

ALL: I want to start trialling this stuff as soon as possible... so lets narrow down those topics.. So far we have something like the below,, please add more or suggest variations... I will probably keep the general chat forums in place as there a good place to put everything else that doesnt belong in the sub forums..

Also just to tie this all into the original suggestion if we can get enough posting going in these sub-topics then adding a higher post count for requests is possible otherwise we will just go with 5 min post...

GENERAL CHAT
MOVIES/TV SHOWS
ANIME/CARTOONS
MUSIC/ARTS
GAMING
SHOPPING
LIFE STUFF
WEBSITES

Be nice answer questions but be hard on the spamming part , we need people that react on signatures and lp's in the showroom.
On my site we have a steady amount of 100 members and growing that visit the forum everyday . Staff over there is hard but very nice to newbies (I think)
We have a number of 25 post to request (1 request per month)and its working fine , we also have a GFX team that does the request , just to keep it to a high level.
Make signatures show them and I"m sure people hop in tho give a comment.
The main goal must be your own art work , not for filling the needs of others.
We will keep members that like the community but most of them will hop in and never return , just focus on the people that stay, and the forums will be ok and busy .

feel free to go there and look around how it's build and what sections we have. www.globalsigalliance.com If you still have any questions feel free to ask .
I'm pretty experienced on forum building and rules.

Keep in mind the main goal is your own art and helping others to get better , so some serious C&c is always nice , not just : nice or that's a nice sig , try to explain what can be better or what part is good.

example on how to be nice and helpful

Nice sig but I suggest you play around to get some more depht. Colour use and blending can use some fine tuning also.

If you help people like that I'm sure they will stick around and try to get better.

ps Sorry for my inactivity the last weeks as some of you may now I own a bar and I'm having some staff issues at the moment so I work double shifts to let it all run smooth again.
Will be back in action soon

one question: how many people (who?) are making the sigs, avatars, userbars etc?

one suggestion.. mods and designers should be more online OR fulfill the requirements faster.. there are many requests still not finished.. or what could be made for people to participate more: if a person has 5 posts his requirement will be finished within 2 weeks. if he has 15 posts withing 1.5 weeks and so on.. and you as mods and designer have a callendar that will show the requirements and the deadlines of each

i think this is one of the best solutions ;)

first were all voulienteres (or how u spell it...)
i my self came here like a complete noob a while ago and have climed very high sinse then... i just like to make some people happy and the requests is a great way to practise my ps skills in and make em happy....

and i have to say that i am nearly ALWAYS online on my free time... witch is usaly at least 2-6h a day....
and it have been a LOT of requests lately...
and we always welcome new designers to help out...

i also have an idea of making more people try to fullfill the requests...
could u add like a auto donation to eople when the fulfill a request...
say i made a sig for noobie... then i get 20 point from the site...
say i made a userbar for fc.... then i get 10 points from the site.

oh, ok.. thnx for the information..

i want to learn how to design etc but i was practicing and it seems that i don't have that talent.. so as you see i am trying to help the forum but not in the requests.. but this is pretty good (everyone helps everyone :p )

but what if someone's requests doesn't fulfill? if nobody makes his sig/avatar etc? at that case one of the signaturebar group/team should be asigned to do the request.. ;)

good idea but usaly if the requester writes the request in the right way the work ill be done... but i see some old ones that have been forgoten so that may be sweet....
it could be like 5-10 persons that get promoted to "head designer" or something like that...

if they are created, i think you should make them mods in the request section
in addition, i believe that if you are goin ahead to make so many sub forums in the general discussion, you should either promote some more moderators, or cut out a few
you've suggested so many sub forums, i think that you need more mods to handle them if this goes through

Some good suggestions here.

Hub: Never knew you had a bar, good luck with that ... And your suggestions are valid. Only problem is that SigAlliance and SigBar have 2 different goals in my opinion... Btw you might want to change the "GROWNING" bit at the end :P

An excellent digital graphics site dedicated to the highest quality gfx possible. With over 1200 members this site is active and growning!

See the above title doesnt really match the aims and objectives of this site entirely. i.e. we're not aiming for the highest quality gfx possible. Lets face it the highest quality gfx possible is probably not gonna happen too often on non commercial sites. Sigbar like many others is a fun iniative, and although we like to see everyone get better (And many members have already improved a lot) our objective will never really be to be that competitve in terms of the work we output. I mean yes fun competitive is great but with all things aiming for the best means its usually not as fun anymore and ends up to do with money.... So although your goals suit your site and your userbase they may not fit exactly with sigbar.

The above is fine though as both sites are targetted at 2 different user bases... Heck if we were in competition i wouldnt let you put your link up :P

Actually i dont think completing requests faster is the issue. I think filtering out good members from bad members like Hub has said is really the problem.

Hub is talking about quality of the work output, thats a good thing to push for and what hes suggesting is to put a plug on the people who just come request and then never come back.. The 10 post rule is going to be applied to see if that helps.

Other than that because this is a free site you cannot expect people to churn out sigs and art like a factory... We dont get paid... so although the turn around time is great,, sometimes it will be slow...

And then you also have to take into account RL issues of people who are here, aswell as the possibility of people just not being able to make sigs for a while, kinda like writers block LMAO I got a sig block going on at the moment LMAO

yeah, excellent point
the thing is the time making the sigs is dependent on the person making the sigs, not the actual site.

I am a newbie here, and to be honest, when I came here I had every intent of requesting a signature, getting it made, and leaving immediately thereafter. One might have noticed that I actually made my request and didn't even introduce myself on the forums. I do have some experience with PHPBB; I had a forum for roleplaying where I actually was a moderator, and I had some bad experiences (the forum actually ended up with proboards). Anyway, that's not what I wanted to say. I think that if you had a post limit more people would come to a sort of SIGBAR revelation. This website is absolutely chock-full of talent. I've seen some of your work on DeviantArt, and I didn't even know they were "real" people. I thought you were all graphic artists or something. Coming to this site has actually made me want to try my hand at making some sigs and logos and stuff. On that: are there any freeware programs I could use to get started? I don't really want to pay for a program that I'm not even proficient with (plus I'm in the midst of a move). I do support a post limit was the main point of this post, and I'm saying this as a newbie.

You people seem very down-to-earth and sensitive about your site. This place feels like a close-knit community, and that's something that I hope I have the diligence to keep posting with even though I don't (at the moment) share your gift. Just a little encouragement I thought I could provide.

Oh! And also! If you guys somehow wind up helping me into being a half-decent sig-maker: IE learning the vernacular like "Render" technically "Background" and those other fancy artist words, I will definitely help you out in learning how to be a better first person shooter. Lol  .

Thanks --

Also one tip about a subforum:

People love to talk about themselves. I love talking about my FPS game and my job. My friends my family. Make subtopics that allow people to share themselves and it will succeed. As far as putting that in a forum? I don't know.

I have just updated the actual rules to enforce the 10 post count. Im not sure if PHPBB has the tools to actually preventing people to post based on the count.. Im going to check that now....

I will start the sub-forums once noobie is back as Im sure she will have some valuable input with regards to that...

Red Rum: Some great points and thanks for that long post , I enjoyed reading it.
