What is an IQ?

An Intelligence Quotient indicates a person's mental abilities relative to others of approximately the same age. Everyone has hundreds of specific mental abilities--some can be measured accurately and are reliable predictors of academic and financial success.

1. If English (American) is not your native language, then your reported IQ score will probably be lower than it would be if you took an IQ test in your own language.

2. It is quite possible to have superior intelligence and yet still have difficulties that may require professional help. Scoring well on any IQ test is no guarantee of success in life. Professional psychological help can sometimes make all the difference between partially or fully realizing your potential.

Never took an IQ test in my life. The only one I took ended up to be a scam because they wanted me to buy stuff.

haha, the first one I did was 45 pages long, and at the end they wanted me to buy my results for 87 dollars... I was like OMFG!! THAT TOOK 3 F@CKING HOURS YOU F@CKING STUPID MOTHER F@CKER! I do apologize for my language but those were my thoughts...

Aggh I don't do these online IQ tests. They never come out wrong. One time I took one (well they were all Tickle Tests) I was 130, then like a week later I took it again and was like freaking 80. And so on and so forth. PLUS, there are like super special clubs out there for people with an IQ over 115....it's nuts. So if those tests are real (on the good days) I think I'm a genious!

Yeah, they're never consistent and probably not accurate, but I still find fun in some, they still stimulate my primitive mind.

You're probably all refering to MENSA, the organisation for people with an IQ of over 150 ( Genius level on Stanford Binet standard tests ). What a fun organisation that must be!

After their monthly self congratulatory meeting where they stand in a circle to pat one another on the back and offer reassurances that they are indeed superior they go back to their "normal" lives comforted by the fact they have a piece of paper that qualifies them as being "different" in some way :roll:

I have no problem with IQ tests to a point but when the jury remains out on defining what exactly "Intelligence" is, I can't perceive any test as being credible - especially when often culturally biased ( regardless of language ). If you don't clearly understand what you are measuring how can you justify any correlation between the score and an actual case?

The best definition of intelligence I ever came across was that "Intelligence is the capacity to acquire capacity" i.e that it is the ability to acquire knowledge whilst expanding your ability to learn more.

Nooo, an IQ test usually carries that label as an attempt to lend academic credibility to a set of questions which have no more bearing on someones actual intelligence than whether they know all the Capitals of Europe . . .

Phew, that one got away from me a little, lol. I just dislike organisations that measure someones worth by how well they answer a set of questions for no other reason than base self agrandisement.

. . .heh, just call me party pooper - I never meant to suggest they aren't interesting in there own right, just wanted to pour a little water on anyone who takes them seriously.

Which reminds me of another quiz . . . I have a (blonde) friend who created a " How well do you know me?" quiz on her Facebook page. A week later she took the quiz herself and scored 85%. Priceless.

Firstly I think the threshold for membership is 140, not 150. Secondly we don't actually stand around patting each other on the back, that's just a cover for our plans to rule the world with an iron fist. :wink:

on this one i got a 120. this one was fast and easy compared to the 300+ questions of the other ADULT level one.

Yes you can, I joined Mensa when I was eight. It's a good thing to have on a CV or a university application.
