New To Signatures && Gimp

okay so i was going off noobies tutorial for gimp beginners and i got all the way to cut the image and after that i have no idea why it isnt working or if im miss understanding something.

As a very close reference i got up to the path tool before i started getting confused on what to do.

Okay i opened the new document. Worked out my background using the same gradiants and measurements as noobie.

Opened the layer. Got the scale layer done. But i used 320 Width to fit my picture for the background. I only am using 1 picture for this one.

Now here is where im a little confused or lost. As far as creating the path around the image.

I did attempt the cut the image i want do the alpha channel and alpha selection but i didnt see a end result.

Anyone got any tips or can guide me through this ?

ok here's what you gotta do
once you have clicked on the outline of the man,go to dialogs,and click Paths.
When that comes up you should be able to see "unnamed" right click on it and do Path To Selection.
Now click ctrl+i or go to select and press invert.Then if your using gimp 2.4+ press the delete key on your keyboard.If your using gimp 2.2 just press ctrl+k.
Then go to dialogs>paths>and delete your unnamed.And just follow rest of the tutorial

I just finished outlineing the image im after... so do i head to dialog after that or ??

That did it for me. I finished it. I will post it in a few minutes for critism. Im just trying to figure out text now and ill post it.

wow i didnt know you had to pree delete for 2.4 damn if i had have known that i could have done things the easy way also this work do everything the tut says but you dnt have to do the invert part then go to edit>cut i think dats it if its not its select cut in gimp 2.4 that is

slect the font tool in main GIMP window and there is box at the bottom of the main GIMP window. click the font box [Aa] and you can see all the fonts installed in your computer.. is it what you wanted to know??

Well Rad did give me the information i wanted to know.. but when i tried to use them, i realize i didnt know how and havnt had time to ask how to find them but you just answered that question.
