Welcome to the site!
There are plenty of tutorials on the site in the tutorials section to help get you started, depending on what software youre going to be using.
The two most popular ones are photoshop and gimp.
Once youve had a practice, show if off in the show off area so people can comment on it and give you some more tips for improvement. :D
