View Full Version : OFFICIAL NEW SITE - Testing Thread

Hi guys,
I'm nearing the completion of the new site, and so it's at this point I need people to start testing it. This means logging in, testing posts, and generally trying out all sorts of things.
I'm trying to test as much as I can on my own but it's alwayds better when you have more people and of course people with different habits using the site.
I'm hoping that as well we bugs, people will report back on graphical glitches, broken links and even simple usability issues. If theres something fundamentally wrong with a particular aspect of the site nows the time to get your feedback in......
The link is below... and if you have feedback and bugs you want to report on, simply post them in this thread. With full details of the problem, e.g. url, scenario maybe even a screenshot.

Thanks

It looks nice, but the posts are too big or confusing. That's pretty much all I see wrong. But overall, nice job!

Hi guys,
1.) thanks for the heads up on the staff forums, they've been locked down now.
2.) Caboose, the confusing aspect is probably for 2 reasons.
a) everyone including myself are all so used to the current site.
b) moving from phpBB and VB does require taking on some extra details.
Any other problems and errors, please keep posting them here, as I will be checking this thread daily over the next week. Once all problems are ironed out, we'll be moving :)

Well, hold my hand on the way in. Ewww, that sounds weird. No-homo. At least the people will be the same! We'll all adjust to the new format.

The coding thing is a bit screwy
If you try and put a link to a pic in there, it shows the picture in there and no coding
http://www.signaturebar.com/forums_lock_zee/showpost.php?p=321983&postcount=2
There is an example
Probs gonna be added when properly published but thought i would mention it,
Wallpapers, avaters, renders, and SOTW lead to a blank page...
Recently added doesnt work...Probs be fixed in final anyways
thats it so far but i just got to ask, are u going to pay $20 per tutorial as stated here http://www.signaturebar.com/mainsite2/tutorials/ ?
if so, WOW!

Thanks for all the great feedback so far.
Chum: I will be looking into all the problems you mentioned. So thanks for that list.
The tutorials
========
The $20 per tutorial hasn't been finalised yet, but it's not as straight forward as you think. Basically the main site will have a special featured section with tutorials, these are in addition to the ones people share and submit to the forums. A special format and quality will be required of these.
Once I have a couple of example tutorials up, to show people the format, I will merely be asking people to submit tutorials in that format, and if we feel there good enough, and the tutorial is unique enough, then and only then will we feature it. If your tut is featured and used on the main site you'll get $20 for your efforts. So just to confirm we only pay for the ones we accept and use.

Hmm...The background , the black is a bit dull..Maybe like a starry pattern on a low opacity would be good.
The quick reply button is a bit awkward , it would be best , if you would simply click on the quick reply box and type in your reply , and click "reply" it says to me to click on one of the quick reply buttons above to quickly reply , why not make it simply without the darn button to simply do a "quick" reply. :/
And like in the current forum , there should be the navigation button "Free Forum Art , Graphics & Design Forum Index" below the thread , it's rather annoying to climb up the thread again , to go back to the main site or something. Though one can adjust fast.>.<
The resources section is empty of links or any resources, but I guess it's normal , since no one hasn't submitted anything yet etc.
In galleries the Wallpaper section is actually the signature section.
Although the design overall is very cool , I like it a lot.:)
ALso , I hope the transfer of the posts count, sbp points , avatars , etc that has in the current forum goes into the new forum as well. I know it's not 100% complete yet , just saying.:p
I think with the transfer issue that Trade said it was just a current mirror of this site, copied at one single time. So that when everything is finally over it'll be all the same, though I have a feeling that the point system will be more complicated.
Also, are the staff forums closed off for good for everyone? Or am I getting fired when we switch over? lol Just letting you know.

ChipZee: Thanks for the feedback, all your points have been noted, but as you have hinted, much of the sites content is empty because we either have nothing for it yet or it just hasn't been put up yet.
With regards to the quick reply button, that's just a VB thing, I remember when I first started using VB I found that annoying too. but after a while you'll get used to it (not much I can really do about that unfortunately).
However I will make the buttons abit more clear, right now there icons and I will replace them with text and in sigbar themed colors.
Etha: Staff forums are closed for everyone lol so don't worry :P
SpiKe: Glad you're excited, I'm excited too :)
What Will Be Transferred
==================
Most of the basic stuff like post counts will be transferred but because we're moving from PHPBB to VB it's actually a pretty big change. Im already noticing that Avatars may have to be ditched and sigbar points will not be migrated automatically. We will probably setup a system where people who really have a lot of points and want them transferred can tell us and we'll manually update your points. However if this is too much work we may abandon it all together. Feel free to give us your feedback on these issues.

Yeah , forgot to mention the fact that one can adjust to anything , we're human. =( Lol , okay , I'm glad to hear all that , keep up the good work and don't lose the spirit!

Glad to hear it :) and yeah my spirits although beaten down from all the work I've been doing still don't prevent me from being excited about the final result. It's gonna be really cool when we finally make the switch and each day we're getting closer :)

Ok first is this real money?
Second if it is can we maybe have the option of converting it into sb points?
Third, so far you have done a great job trade, as everyone has been telling me its well worth the wait.
Suggestions:
Well its more of a couple of quastions actually lol'
First off
With the galleries is that where members can upload there work and show it off like a portfolio? If so thats way cool lol
Second, will we be able to choose our skins? so we have multiple choices? this would be great i know a guy who makes em cheap also i know how to make forum templates myself and we could get other members to do there own the only problem is we need a coder if we are to make our own i think i could possibly find one to code fpr free
Also many points do we get for posting?
Problems:
1, The quick reply is not working for me.
2. The member status is old lol not a rea problem though lol
3. The galleries dont work
4. The tut section doesnt work
I know most of the above are very obvious and may come with the full upgrade but i just had to note them just incase
oh and for those who dont like the quick reply i love it u will get used to it trust me its alot easyer then the normal reply

So , did you get quick reply to work? By clicking the pencil beneath the posts?
Because i got quick reply to work by doing that.;p
And I think the database was simply copied some long time ago and then added to the current forums.

Btw, implementing shoutbox would help the community by a big bunch!
It's really hip these days and all.
It would certainly bring in some more people.
Sorry for bumping.

Read your posts guys,
Pastortoy1: The offline and online button only does that in Opera if im correct, if its happening in FF or IE let me know ?
Storm: Thanks for those points, many of those sections will work in the final release. Yes there will be a portfolio system allowing you to showcase your work, although it might not be fully ready for phase 1 of the site. So we'll keep developing that as we go along. Im expecting to do further releases and upgrades after the major move is done.
Chipzee: Shoutbox, not sure yet, previously we have denied it, so we'll have to discuss that again... most likely it will be no, but we will discuss it.
Everyone: Quickreply only works by clcking on the quick reply button under a post. It used to be a pencil as some of you have mentioned.
Thanks
Zee

Hey.
The offline status doesn't cover the username on FireFox , nor on Internet Explorer.
Not wanting to dig or anything , but why exactly don't you want the shoutbox?
It's a lot of fun and a very good place to spend leisure time.
Chipzee.

Ok, so I'm gonna post issues as I find them, so, first thing i found, and it may just be my stupid issue, but on my signature I have a userbar, and then a code box which is supposed to just read of the code for the bar, but it shows the userbar again, so Code boxes may not be working

i think that's natural vB behavior, not a bug.

Noted about the complexity of the points system, all of us staff also noted that but im sure its something everyone will get used to and im sure we can disable a couple of features so its more clear cut.
Quick Update
I didn't get to do any work on this site over the last week hence no release, Im back on it this week and will let you know as soon as I have a date. Right now Im just going through the main site and fixing bugs and features... The bulk of the work is all done so it's just small things left..

ok thanks, also I saw some of the feedback posted on the actual new forums. Can someone elaborate on the forum looking
a) disproportional
b) scrunched
If you could give me an idea of what those mean in the context of fixing them, I'd be more than happy to take a look at them.

ok well no replies to my followups so I'm presuming people aren't as concerned about the layout as they have posted about.
Good news is that Im hoping to launch the new site over the weekend, but at the very latest monday :) I have a few more small tasks to complete but Monday you'll see a new site at the very latest... :)

Yes I hope so, and there will certainly be plenty of change and features coming up once we go live tommorrow. So the next few weeks we'll be dealing with the many requests and changes requested by the users.
