This was the first tutorial I ever did!
I created it originally for another site, so sorry for any irregular references.
Hey guys, this is a tutorial for pen tooling, present on my current signature. I hope you enjoy this and would love to see some results :) Pen tooling is a great tool in any graphic artist's arsenal.
This should be done on a new layer, for every line you do ;)
Generally you should use relevant colours to the piece, if you can add a white or black with it. I will use blue just so you can see clearly what Im doing.
Step 1:
Set your brush tool to a hard brush, 3-12 pixels depending on the thickness of the line you are aiming for.

Step 2:
Make sure you're using the 'paths' version of the pen tool. (top left corner)
Select the pen tool and click twice, forming a straight line, as shown.

Step 3:
Click and hold the line anywhere you like, youll see you can now bend the line around. Do this until you have something you like ;) (not on the same click and hold)

Step 4:
Right click and select stroke path, not fill path. The option box will come up with a check box for stimulate pressure.
Its up to you whether or not you use it. Below the check box is an example of both.

Step 5:
right click anywhere on the line and select 'delete path'.
Now you need to erase the bits we dont want. You can erase any areas you like for different results, here is mine.

I sometimes find that setting the layer to dissolve works well, here is an example.

Some things to remember when pen tooling:
-Generally, using colours from the piece works the best.
-Black and white can sometimes make it seem more I dont know, it just looks nice J
-Pen tooling isnt always suitable, its mostly used for human renders, cars etc
Hope you enjoyed the tut, show me your results :P
