After meandering around SB for some time now I stumbled across this post in the introduction forum that really made me think about the SB members. Although, yes, we do get to know one another through requests for/posts of avatars and sigs and the random stuff that gets put under general discussion, well...I think it'd be fun to have another way to get to know one another; a role play forum.

Avatars and sigs say a lot about people, usually, and so does how a person role plays because the decisions you make for your character is totally up to you. even just what you choose for your character, how they look and act, says things about yourself.

I think it would also increase that amount of visitors to SB and in that way give back to the site. I've noticed on another site I'm a member of that the role play forum/sub forums draw a lot of views; it's a bit like reading an ongoing book. It's really is just another way for people to get involved with SB and have some fun.

I've met several other people on here that enjoy role playing as well, so I don't think I'm the only one on here who'd take advantage of it. Maybe it's just me, but I really want to see a RP forum on here. What's everyone else think?

Im not too sure i understand what you mean by a role play forum....
I think im getting ya, but just to be sure...
Do you mean something like for example....A thread called signaturebar pub...or signaturebar coffee shop(yes i watch too much friends lol)
where people go in the thread and so called "act out"...like...."hi all, whos buying the drinks?"....and so on...to make fun conversation?
I used to chat in a forum ages ago that did that, and yeah those threads always sempt to go down well...especially the pub one lol..

No, that's not quite what I meant, but close. What I was thinking was more than just one, like maybe three or so. For example, there could be one for human RP, one for mystical creatures, and one for role playing real life animals (just an example). That way it covers more of what everyone who comes to SB is into. Here's an example of what I'm talking about, but keep in mind it isn't it exactly; they pretty much only RP wolves here: I was thinking more of a set up a little like this one, where the RP is a forum on its own. http://www.wolfweb.com/wolves/index.php.

I like this site's idea of having a place just for character sheets, a request forum for asking for members for a RP, and then they have the forum for the actual RPing. I don't think for SB that the site actually needs a place for the dead RPs, but that could also be done if you guys want to, I suppose. I gave WW's RP forums as an example because they've got it set up so you can find what you're looking for pretty easily. If you want info on somebody's character, it's right there on the site. In the character profiles forum they even list the breeds being RPed and a list of the names being RPed. That seems to really help keep things straight. It's nice to have everything right there.

The whole idea of SB having a RP section just came to me for the first time when I was hearing that other members get bored on here because there's not much to do when things get slow - the incident in the Introductions forum just made me decide to say something about it. I think with more to do on SB more people are going to be likely to come back. So what are you guys thinking of that?

basically it is an online form of D & D (Dungeons and Dragons) or VtM (Vampire the Masquerade). I use to be involved in a few communities for WhiteWolf the makes of VtM. It was fun while it lasted.

Hmm...ive just taken a look and personally its not my kind of thing, although thats not to say others wont like it...i like the idea, that its unique and seems fun, but still, im not too keen on the idea personally.
What does everyone else think?

I dont think i fully understand what it is really ? So will need some help understanding what would need to be implemented if say for example we said yes to the idea ?

Also im not sure how many people will actually participate ? Maybe we can have a show of hands ?

We'll keep this topic open so that we can get a better understanding of whats being proposed :)

I know what Demons saying. Personally I don't see anything wrong with it, it can do nothing more than enhance the forums. From my forum and others by my friends it's really a great way to start up things, and you don't even have to be a writer to participate in one.

I don't really know how to describe it in a better way from how Demon Wolf was doing it....

As for implementing the new forum you could do something like this (http://z10.invisionfree.com/Shooting_Stars/index.php?showforum=9). Where I have different sections for the RP stages.

Or you could set it up as "silly" RPs and "Serious" RPs. The silly ones are mostly done like this:

Me: *throws every member of SB a cookie*

And the more serious are made like a story, kind of fantasy theme.

Here's an example of each if you still need it cleared up.

Serious(Fantasy RPG) (http://z10.invisionfree.com/Shooting_Stars/index.php?showtopic=485)

Silly (http://z10.invisionfree.com/Shooting_Stars/index.php?showtopic=811)

And here's an example of the not quite RP but placed in there anyways, New Years Party (http://z10.invisionfree.com/Shooting_Stars/index.php?showtopic=732)

Most people categorize the forums by those catergories as well.

Like I said before it can't hurt, but it would be nice to have them regularly participated in. It's no fun when you just have 2 people going back and forth.

Hope I could clear some things up for those still not getting it.

Oh yeah, and in case it's not clear enough, I'd definatly participate =]

im getting the idea more now, but those links wont work unless logged in lol. But yeah i suppose it would be fun, id deffo participate in the silly ones lol, and depending on the subject so to speak...on the serious ones, then id give that a go too.

I think it's just one of those things where we won't know until it's been tried. Like I said, I wasn't thinking of having the forum set up exactly like WW's, it was just the best example I could come up with.

My thoughts on having different types of RPs set up was that it would be more likely to have something that every member could get into if they so chose. Yeah, I think it'll start slow, but with time I also think that more members will start playing and more will be staying with SB. Me - I'm in it for the fun. I'm already addicted to SB, lol. I like the example of the set up that Etha gave - it looks really good and it's pretty easy to find everything.

I'll add a poll to the main post and see what reactions we get from the other SB members.
