This short tutorial will show you the process I use to extract an image from a background (rendering an image). I also throw in some tips on how to enhance the overall quality of your renders by utilizing the matting and defringe features within photoshop. Hope you learn something!

In my opinion the pollygonal lasso tool is better and more acurate and easy to use. Also you can get smoth edges using 0.0 - 1.0 feather , that is what I use.
Anyway , thx for share.

I agree, feathering helps, but I only use it much larger images as it tends to show transparency on smaller images resulting is a lower quality cut. I like my edges to be as crisp as possible.
In regards to polygonal lasso tool...i guess its preference. Rather than clicking around a circular edge 100 times I would rather just make one line with the pen tool as it gives you that flexibility. It's much more efficient. However, that's why photoshop is so great because you have so many methods top choose from and pick what is most comfortable for you.

The pentool is very good for hair rendering though. I like the polygonal lasso moer cuz it lets you drag the line , I find that pretty usefull. Anyway , if you mess it somewhere you can't undo it , you have to do it all again , that's where the pentool is better imo.

You can drag the line with the pentool as well. Just click the ctrl button when you would like to pull it out
