k here is how i did it back in the days when i was using gimp

1st u will hve to create a pattern (this is just 1 time thing, once u hve the pattern created, u can go to step 5 directly)

1. open a 3x3 image with transparent background, now its too small so u will hve to zoom in to be able to see it, zoom to about 800%, u shud be seeing something like this

2. take out ur pencil tool and select the smallest brush (circle 01)

Click on the image to enlarge it

3. now draw a diagonal line with ur pencil tool like this

4. thats it pattern is done, So save it as a pattern (.pat file) and i recommend saving it in gimps patterns folder (C:\Program Files\GIMP 2.0\Share\gimp\patterns unless u installed gimp under a different path) so its availble to u in future as well

5. now open ur sig/image that u wana put scanlines on

6. create a new transparent layer, take out ur bucket fill tool, in options select pattern and find the new pattern u just created, if u cant see it, refresh patterns, also make sure that "fill whole section" is selected

7. now just fill(click once on) ur new layer and u should have scanlines

doesnt look right because the forum is resizing the image, click on it to see the actual image

play with blending modes/opacity to get ur desired outcome

Hope this helps =)
