how to set a mode to overlay

im a bit confused im only new to this program and i dont know how to do it by my self so i read the tutorials but since im a newbie i dont know where to find that mode please help me

and also please help me how to remove selected image after using the path tool

i want to learn more please teach me

i tried doing on noobie's first part of tut but i cant see the image being cut after making a path and pressing ctrl + i and ctrl + k it seems there's no change in the image and in the background

to change a blend mode, you can right click on the layer you wish to change on your layer palette and go to blending options

then there is a drop down box (should say normal in the box) that you can use to change it

as for the removal of selected image, not sure what your asking, but make sure that you aren't just seeing the layer below the one your working on

the little "eye" next to the layer on the layer palette controls whether the layer is visible or not, just click the eye to make it non-visible :)
