Site Was Hacked & Wiped Out!! ... I guess we can only le

Hi guys,

I just got on and to be honest am still in shock.. Not that the forums got wiped but that sicarius would do such a thing. It seems extremely dodgy and very unexpected.. Its also shown me who I can trust and who i can't and what needs to be done in the future.

The funny thing was I was actually looking to expand the site in many many ways going forward however now that seems a little premature.

Anyway im not down and out and Im going to do my best to see if I have a backup of the forum... I probably dont have a complete backup but i might be able to recover at least some posts :(

Ok well im sure with the loyal members on this site we can certainly bring things back to normal... Just give me some time to sort things out and in the mean time Noobie , Im promoting you to admin to take of things whilst I recover.

Ah trade, im so glad youre back...ive tried every way possible to get hold of you.
We have a very strong memberlist and im sure in no time things will pick up, i mean look already we have loads of posts in just a few hours.
Just let me know what you need doing trade in pm or staff forum and ill do my best to help you get the forum back the way it was.

congrats noobie ... well obviously it would be better to have had this promotion under better circumstances but what has been done has been done ...

trade don't give up on expanding the site you should still do that... don't look at this as a setback more like a helping hand .. you will now see how strong your memberlist is and there are people here who aren't just around to stab you in the back..

I'm sorry that sicarus has done this ... and if it is indeed him who did it and not someone else as he would have us believe then he will see that it will take more than this to put this good site down..

See Trade, its why you need MATURE members as your staff, people who you can trust - just because someone posts a lot - does not make them mature, or sane enough to mod your forums.

As last night shown - myself and noobie watched it all happen in front of our eyes, and we were completely helpless to stop it.

The sad excuse Sic gave about him being hacked - all bull****, as if he was hacked, he must have HACKED back to regain control - which is crap, as unless he has a super computer better than what the CIA has, then he would not be able to `grab` the password back to his account without knowing the original `hacked` password - therefor - meaning Sic WAS responsible, and him being hacked is a poor and very lame excuse.

Sicarius whatever he is saying is banned for the moment. I will have to start an investigation and track through the logs to see what happened. Unfortunately my trust levels are way down at the moment so hes not coming back anytime soon.

I guess one has to expect these types of things and the only thing I can do is keep a daily backup of the server so that we can atleast recover form this sort of stuff in the future. Im setting that all up now, so that it will happen automatically :)

No doubt getting hacked, or members going looney can happen again so we just gotta be prepared for it...

Ok I have found a backup of the forums from April 07 ,,, so thats something but its not great especially since most of the best activiy was After July 15th 2007 or so.. :(

Im looking for more recent backups and of course will keep you updated..

No what i will do is overwrite the existing data with the old data, so your accounts will still remain... :) alsmot like the backup data will be added to whatever is on the site right now :) Well i hope it works like that..

The theory is that they will stay but obviously in reality it could well mean we lose them.. I hope not :) Fingers crossed.

Btw I have now found a backup for July 7th 2007.. thats a bit better i guess but still not ideal.

Im waiting on my servers datacenter to get back to me and see if they keep a daily rotating backup of my servers I suspect the answer will be no :(... But we can only try ..

I installed a brand new script on July the 7th, which is why I just happen to have a backup from that date :) Im pretty sure I installed sigbar points after you joined ?? Can you remember ? If you did i might have a backup from after that..

Ok well final news is that the best i can restore to is July 7th. I should be grateful that i can atleat back those up :)

I have also setup offsite backup for my server that means , techincally we shouldnt have this problem anymore. if it does we should have a pretty decent backup.

Im sorry for letting you guys down, with the backups and all. I really am , I hope i will be able to better cope in the future.

You didnt let anyone down trade....its just one of those things, well least now if anything like that happens again, which hopefully it never will then at least youll have more recent backups.
When will the site be restored to its original state, well more or less lol?

Again thanks for the continued re-assurance and support .. Im currently trying to restore but am having some problems , In order for me to restore and still keep all the activity you guys are putting up i have to do it manually.. Kind of like adding chunks of data back in but avoiding overwriting the latest stuff. Im working on it right now and will continue to work on it until i have it finished :)

Hmm as you can see alot of the forum posts are now back, but the counts on the categories and actual forums are still wrong, so just working on fixing that.

Btw alot of the forum topics and threads dont make any sense no more. Like i said because i did a partial backup.. We have threads in the userbar request area saying complete... But when you read the posts it looks like no one attempted them. Thats because the topic data is from before the hack, and the posts I recovered for that topic are from way back..

So

1.) Lets move all the completed requests (Even if they dont look completed) into the completed forum

2.) I may well also have re-uploaded some old spam topics so lets get rid of those too as we come across them.

All in all, recovery is complete Im still setting up the backup system so probably wont post much today or the next few days... but all in all atleast we're back up and running.. Any problems just speak to noobie :)

Just noticed the name of this thread has changed ; when was the site hacked?

Maybe I`m wrong, but I just thought it was a disgruntled staff member who deleted all the forum threads, not the actual site being hacked.
