Hey guys, I've been trying my best to figure this out in gimp but now I don't know what to do and I know it might be easy for you.

I always wanted to know how to do that type of pale-ish feature, do you know what I mean? It has a light, but it seems very opaque. It's a cool feature and I would love to know how I can do that.
Also, for a render, does anyone know how to work well with lighting? Because I would like it for a render to be start with light and brightness in one end and by the other end it gets dark and shadow-ish. I want that to look VERY GOOD.
