With the latest patch of the PC game Spore comes the ability to use a console command to export a 3d model file of player-created creatures and outfitted creatures (i.e. space captains). These models can be loaded into high end 3d animation software and manipulated to the full ability of these programs (or the ability of the operator lol). This means that I can export a model from the game and load it up in autodesk maya '09 and then pose it (thanks to the included skeletal structure in the models) and render the model using the extreme res capability of maya and mental ray rendering (which I've heard was used to model all the transformers robots in the major motion pictures along with the special effects in nearly every major picture with an academy award for fx in the last ten years!). I'm a total novice when it comes to this program so my results don't come out as well as they could.

Anyways, on to the renders. Anyone has permission to use any that I post in this thread. If you see a reflection of a building in any of them, that's from the image I used to map the lighting. All of these models were made by me in spore and rendered in maya using HDRI environment-based lighting (and some point lights).

Please note that my gallery consists of creations made by me as well as others, however this thread contains only captains that I've made in Spore: Galactic Adventures.
