Does anyone here play it?
For you who don't know what Ultimate Frisbee is i will tell you about it.
Ultimate is a non-contact competitive team sport played with a flying disc (a Frisbee). The object of the game is to score points by passing the disc into the opposing end-zone, similar to an end-zone in American football or Rugby. Players may not run while holding the disc. Ultimate is distinguished by its Spirit of the Game—the principles of fair play, sportsmanship, and the joy of play.
While originally called "ultimate Frisbee", "Frisbee" is a trademarked brand name for discs made by Wham-O, and in fact discs made by the Frisbee competitor Discraft are now the most commonly used in the sport because of Wham-O's attempt to gain money off of the sport in the 1970s. The game is played using a 175 g disc for most games.
This year I'm off to the World Youth Ultimate championships in Canada, I got into the team and that means that I 1. Miss out on trial HSC and 2. I get 5 extra UAI points few months ago I played in the Australian youth ultimate championships. I also play club ultimate, My Team draw (http://ufnsw.com.au/show.php?page=leagues_nsl_div2_draw). My team is called "In - Tents" (pun intended)
Now.. Before anyone starts making jokes about it being called "Ultimate" No I don't know why it was called that. I think its Ultimate(ly) fun.
Well yes we do play with a piece of plastic but you do things such as layout's, sky's and Greatest's (which is bloody hard to do). if you have no idea what I am on about here..
Note: this is a small layout - Layout (http://k43.pbase.com/u7/elsinger/large/6634772.30.jpg), Better layout (http://homepages.nyu.edu/~kcl251/layout1.jpg) A layout is A dive to catch the disc.
Sky (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/bc/Contrabid.jpg). A Sky is Leaping and catching the disc at maximum height over an opponent - a tactic that leads to immense
gratification for the skyer and great embarrassment for the one who is skyed. Also referred to as
a "Tea Bag" or "Box Lunch" depending upon the gender of the skyer.
And a Video of A "The greatest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQIkBuAL3-s)" but in this case its called a "Worlds greatest" because a point was scored off it.
If you still have no idea what I am on about here are the Terms used in Ultimate (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_Terms)
Any Questions?
