View Full Version : Ways To Help The Site - Part 1

Hi guys,
A very quick thread to just remind people about how they can help the site. Firstly by simply remaining active on the site you're doing a great job so everyone who is active should give themselves a pat on the back, but there are some other ways which many of you may not have realised. I'm quickly going to go over one such method in part 1 of this series of threads.
Method 1 - Uploading Your Images
On the mainsite many of you have already got accounts which allow you to upload and manage your images online. The main site categorises them into userbars and signatures.
However a lot of you also use other image hosting companies either for sheer convenience or ease of use and although I'm never going to force any of you to use signaturebar.com exclusively I just wanted to highlight some of the benefits we at signaturebar.com get if you do upload to us.
1.) Search Engine Authority - Each image that is uploaded with a valid title and the keywords field entered creates a new unique page on the main site. The more pages we have the more pages that get ranked in google and the greater our search engine authority. This is an awesome thing and helps the site more than I can really explain.
2.) More Money - Each image uploaded hence each page on the site increases the chance of us earning from ads. People are searching for all sorts of keywords from "Star Wars Signatures" to "Football Userbars". The more unique search terms our site picks up the more money we make the better it is for the site and it's future growth.
3.) Reputation - Each image uploaded increases our total inventory meaning we can make bolder statements on the web. e.g. userbars.com is currently the largest collection of userbars on the net. They have something close to 400,000 userbars uploaded compared to our 4000 and are entitled to saying they have the largest userbar collection on the net. Of course quantity doesn't mean quality but nevertheless I want to grab back some market share from some of these other sites.
Final Words
I don't expect to be rivalling userbars.com overnight nor do i expect the signaturebar.com site to increases it's total number of pages in a couple of weeks but if you guys are able to upload your unique images and make use of the signaturebar.com upload/submission facility then know that you will be helping the site grow both in terms of revenue and authority.
Can we hit 10,000 userbars by the end of 2009 ?
Can we hit 20,000 signatures by the end of 2009 ?
Who really knows but the more we upload the closer we will get to those goals.
Thanks for hearing me out.

TD,
I would love to host all my sigs on this site but the limitation on filesize means I have to use photobucket.

Hey zee, sounds like a good idea. I know I was talking to jeff today, and he uploaded a sig to sigbar.com and we both thought it looked really low quality and we weren't sure why. It wasn't until he realised that the limit of 97kb for a sig was reducing the sig quality down to fit this size.. I think his original size was 130kb if I am not mistaken. Definitely an increase on the size restrictions would help.

As an example the skull sig below is 1.6mb and some video sigs can go over 2mb.

Ok so when we're talking about size are we talking about image canvas size or size as in KB... Obviously I can tweak both but if i could get some clarification on size of image as well i.e. pixels width and height that would be great...
Obviously the standard for our sig sizes on the forum will remain the same but I can accomodate larger sigs in a different upload category if we need it...

We are mainly talking size.. not many people exceed 400x200 pixels.. so its just the size.

600 x 100 is a popular size as well.

Yeah sorry about that hub it's not 100% visible, it's in the sidebar on the homepage, and yes you'll need your own account which is separate to the forums.
I need to combine the forum and mainsite logins at some point as well as adding a submit link on the top menubar.

I would say a 1 to 2mb file size for uploading would be ideal, as 407370 pointed out, if you have animation in your signature it can greatly enlarge the file size

I think i think .. hmmmm
I think trade is doing an awesome job come on everybody clap clap clap!..
Yeah we should stick to some restrictions cause at the end we are sigs/ubars portal and not an image hosting service! i always use 450 x 19 userbar 400 x 150 max 200 for Sigs!

we wouldnt be a Image host to the world if you keep the size 400x200 by 2mb. That would cover the animated sigs and larger sigs. Like KRS said I uploaded a 118kb sig and it did reduce it to 97.7kb and it looked like crap so I had to figure out what had happened and then saw that you are only allowed to upload files that are less than 97.7kb, so I say raise that to 2mb.
When I post off site its usually because its an animated sig running between 1mb-2mb or a larger sig, but 400x200 is fine for size.
Also is should still count the uploads, that you upload to your ALBUMS on your profile page...
http://www.signaturebar.com/forums/album.php?albumid=20
I do this for my SOTW entries, because you can set the albums to Private where only mods can see it.

Yeah actually the album setting is set to 97.7kb but I dont see a limit with main sites Upload. I just uploaded several Animated sigs and they were between 500kb-1.5mb so It looks like the Albums need to be adjusted to Unlimited KB/MB and both sections need to adjust to 400x200
I did notice in the albums it greatly readuced quality for a lot of the sigs i uploaded
weird...me to, i just tested

I yesterday removed the limitation of file size on the main site upload. I will update the album upload limitations and increase the acceptable sig dimensions to 400x200, previously it was 400x150.
Thanks guys, and keep uploading your images to the main site. It really really helps the site loads.
Awesome Trade =]
Oh, and I always thought that my sigs looked different when I uploaded them but never thought twice about it, now I know it wasn;t my imagination XD

hmm 20,000 sigs and 10,000 userbars by the end of 2009. That means we need 6234 more sigs and 5846 more userbars. So that means 30 sigs a day and 28 userbars a day. Thats 48mins per sig and 51mins per userbar.
Yep i rekon that KRS25 can do this. GoodLuck KRS.
I mite up a couple so you can have a sleep maybe once a week.:D
hahaha I think as a community this is diffentley achievable.

Hey Team, I'm just throwing this out there cause i have just uploaded all my sigs to the site.
What do you think about increasing the sig size upload to 400x400? This would allow me to upload the pop sigs i have done as well as letting people upload there vertical sigs?
Any thoughts?
