Tut Intro
okie, this isn't a kewl tut i know, kinda boring but it can help you make all those kewl stuff :) or once again give u kewl ideas to make well, non boring sigs and pictures.
Just going to show you a basic 3-d object, a marble. Here are some examples of what you can make:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/marble.png
quick (another) example...yea i know not as great as the above

Tutorial V1
1.ok so open your canavas (I chose 420x330) then delete all layers then add a new one in layers dialogue
2. choose a mediumish colour (or in english- choose any colour but not too bright and not too dark) I chose blue because its one of my fav colours :) 1c4c6b
3. chose circle select tool and simply select a circle in the middle of ur image. make sure its and actual ciclre or else ur result will turn out fairly strange(known from experience as seen by second marble example) so no ovals...look above for size details, but truly it doesn't matter
4. we do not want to lose this selection throughout basicaly this whole tut so if u ever do lose it just simply undo. go edit> fill with fg or bg colour (whichever is your colour aviously) this is going to be the main colour of our marble. you can add designs but it may not turn out as great, if you do draw some sort of design i may suggest blurring it A LITTLE then lowering its transparency, maybe even setting a different blending mode.
I would add a picture but its kinda simple.....you should have a circle with your desired colour(selection still there)
5. add a new layer by using layers dialogue...dialogues>layers. choose paint brush tool and change the collour to black. colour the top left hand side of the circle, then change the colour to white and colour the bottom right hand side of the circle. you should have something like this:
i relize the white kinda blends in with the forums..but u get the idea
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/marbletut1.png
6. go filters> blur > gaussin blur set it at about 55 if ur using my size, but this varies per circle size(more blur bigger circle, less blur smaller circle) lower this layer's opacity to about 65 to give it a more natural look. now remember we should still have the circle selected right? if not you may have to redo the last couple steps or else this won't work. We should have something like this:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/marbletut2.png
7. add a new layer. some people may skip this step(but in my opinion it kinda looks better)
take the paint brush tool and with white simply put about 3 dots in this pattern:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/marbletut3.png
8. go filters>blur>gausson blur settings at about 7 or 8.. if you like it better, just lower the opacity instead of blurring it.
9. select> none ......YAY no more moving lines :D
10. in layers dialogue choose the top layer. then go back to your image and merdge all the layers down. don't go image flatten, trust me, doesn't work.
11. add new layer. choose the circle select tool and make an oval, set your FG colour to black and go edit>fill with FG colour. this is what my oval looks like:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/marbletut4.png
12. move this layer below your marble layer. move it around until you get what you want, ( we are making the shadow of the marble, use examples at the top for more help) erase parts that may be sticking out of different areas of the marbel.(okay just erase parts that don't look good)
heres what I have so far:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/marbletut5.png
13.select you shadow layer. lower the transparency to about 30 or 40
14.select the top layer then go layer> merdge down
15. save as png file with default settings including export if needed.
here we go!

Tut V2 -- little more advandced+ inspired by google earth
1.ok so open your canavas (I chose 420x330) then delete all layers then add a new one in layers dialogue
2. once again choose an apropriate colour, I chose red this time(btw change your BG colour so we have white and your chosen colour). 932020
3. chose circle select tool and make a circle (same size as before) as perfect as you can. then go edit> fill with BG colour. Make sure you'll have enough room to make a shadow on the right side.
4. as before your circle selection should stay there until I say so ( which this time is basicaly the whole tut) just go alpha to selection if you lost your selection. anyways add a new layer then switch your colour to white (we are going to make a design). My design is proly the best looking and easiest one: (yea i know mine could be better but i dont have much steady hand skillz)
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/arble1.png
5. add another new layer and select the gradient tool. make it FG-transparent and shape radial
rest default settings. your going to make a very small gradient. start not in the middle but off to the left side and up a little. pull it out just to the edge of your circle. You should have something like this:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/arble2.png
6. Now we're going to add a new layer again. go alpha to selection on your red circle(this is where we are about lose our selection for a moment) nothing should happen XD then go select>grow> 2. make sure your new layer is chosen in layers dialogue and the go edit fill with BG colour. put this layer at the bottum. this just simply gives it a little border.
7. alpha to selection on the layer we just worked on. :) now we have our selection back. make a new layer at the top and change your BG colour to black. now we have two colours that are black and the other white. draw white up in the left hand corner and black in the bottom right like this:
http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/arble3.png
8. filters>blur>gaussin blur settings at 58. lower this layer's opacity to about 63
9.select the top layer and merdge down each layer. before you do this, this should be the layer order(from top to bottum)

10. add a new layer and choose circle select tool. draw and oval ( this is going to be our shadow) go edit> fill with FG colour. put this layer to the bottum and place it in a right spot. erase parts that don't look good. lower this layer's opacity to about 25. merdge down these two layers and save as png with default settings. including export
end result:

Regarding making the circle selection, there's a few tips regarding that. Once you've started dragging out the selection you can hold shift to force the ratio to match (making it a perfect circle) or hold ctrl to cause the circle selection to expand outwards from the point of origin (or hold both for both effects). It may be better than trying to judge the proportions yourself. ;)
BTW if u havent noticed i decided to pull out a ouple of my old tuts!
