Introduction
Hey guys! well I was bored and started messin around with gimp, and then I made this avatar and thought it was kinda cool. Lol so I decided to make a tut out of it and show you all how boredome can be cool! After this tut I have a couple more I'm going to make fairly soon, first-a tech sig then-the c4d/fractal in gimp tut. :D

Tutorial
1.okay, so first open a larger canvas than you will need, I'd say about 300x215.
2. Delete all layers present, then add a new transparent layer. Choose the rectangle select tool and draw a square the same size you want your avatar to be. scrool down to see the size I chose MAKE SURE IT IS NO LARGER THAN 100X100 PXLS!!
3. change your FG colour to a lighter colour, I chose blue 0086ed and go edit>fill with FG colour.
4.add a new transparent layer. change your FG colour to black and go select>border>settings 3. edit>fill with FG colour
5. lower this layer's transparency to 30-35 then add a new transparent layer.
6. alpha to selection on your coloured square, then select the new layer again. Choose the blend/gradient tool and change your FG colour to white and the gradient to FG to transparent. Now fraw a small gradient coming from the top.

7. add a new layer just above your coloured square. change FG colour to black and then alpha to selection on your blue square. go select>border> setting3. select your new layer and go edit>fill with FG colour.
8. alpha to selection on coloured square-select black outline layer. press ctrl+i then ctrl+X. alpha to selection on coloured square AGAIN and select black outline. go filters>blur>gaussin blur>settings 30. click ctrl+F till you get what you want-(I clicked it about 2 times)

9.select>none. now. aopen up your avatar icon. in thi case, I chose a skull. add a new layer above this. position your icon perfectly then alpha to selection on the icon layer. delete this layer and select your new layer. to colour it, you can either do a solid black icon by going (change FG colour to black. edit>fill with FG colour.) or choose two of the same colours,one lighter than the other, and running a small gradient over the icon(FG-BG gradient)
I did a black but a gradient or even only white is nice too, it is completely up to you.-

10. now, I'm going to add a little text to mine. choose a computer text or somethin like that and make it really small, put it down in corner in whatever colour you like. lower the transparency as needed.

11. merdge each layer down, then do an autocrop so we dont have all that extra space(image>autocrop)
12. save as a png image and your done!!!!---
