Put this together today to get back in to my "resource making" along with sig making.....idk when I'll have the single image tutorial up on DA...hopefully soon. Anyways, enjoy!

Introduction

Well I figured to help me get back into the groove of things after my absence I'd obviously start by making a signature. Why not also make a tutorial out of it? ;)

Fractals/c4ds

fractal pack: http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=greentunic+fractal+pack#/d1kly0a

stock: http://warfare2.lv/wp-content/gallery/ghost-amp-soap-foto/8.jpg

SIDE NOTE: If you are using the eraser and all it does is put white splotches on your image. Add a new transparent layer, and merge it [layers<merdge] down with the layer you are trying to erase. All done in layers dialogue.

Tutorial

1. Open up a blank canvas [file<new] mine was 400x170

2. Put in your stock photo and place it to your liking.

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW1.png

3. Mine was a little blurry after I scaled it so I sharpened it a little bit. [file<enhance<sharpen]

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW2.png

4. Next I duplicated the stock [layer<duplicate layer] and motion blurred it [Filters<blur<motion blur] settings (length: 100 Angle: 134) After this, I took the eraser [tools<paint tools<eraser] and erased everything that was on my focal (in this case "Ghost" from MW2) and I erased parts around the edges. I did this mainly to blend my focal in a bit.

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW3.png

5. I didn't like how the left corner was looking, so I found a picture of a forest and put it in my sig [file<open as layers] I erased the areas over my focal and the right side. Then I lowered the opacity in layers dialogue [windows<dockable dialogs<layers][opacity- 60%]

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW4.png

6. I noticed I ruined my light source, so I tried to renew it by drawing with some white[tools<paint tools<paintbrush] and setting the layer to "overlay" in layers dialogue.(mode<overlay) Make sure to add a new layer first [layer<new layer<transparency]

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW5.png

7. Next I opened up a fractal [file<open as layers] and then distorted it a bit with [filters<artistic<oilify] (mask size:9 Exponent:8) everything unchecked except "use intensity algorithm

Now what I did with it was erase parts that looked bad and only put it mainly around the edge of my focal. I set the layers to dodge under "mode" in layers dialog

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW6.png

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW7.png

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW8.png

8. Next I added a lightning stock and set the layer mode to "screen" and changed the opacity to 30% erase the parts you don't like

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW9.png

9. Next I added a fractal and set the mode to "lighten only" I moved it around until I liked it with [tools<transform tools<move] and then desaturated it [colours<desaturate] pick whatever setting you think looks best

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW10.png

10. Add a new transparency layer like we did in step 6. Use your paintbrush to draw small lines (colours of your choice) duplicate this layer [layers<duplicate layer] until you see it 4 times in the layers dialogue.
apply the following to the correct layer

layer one: leave this layer alone

layer two: filters<blur<gaussin blur (settings 5)

layer three: filters<blur<gaussin blur (settings 2)

layer four: filters<artistic<cubism (settings- tile size: 1 tile saturation : 2.5)

In the layers dialog, set all of these 4 layers to "overlay" under "mode"

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW11.png

11. To fill up the black spot on the right side of my sig, I found a busy cloud stock and set it to "lighten only" in layers dialogue. I lowered the opacity so it wouldn't be too noticeable. I duplicated it and smudged it [tools<paint tools< smudge] a little bit for an extra effect. Desaturate if needed [colours<desaturate]

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW12.png

12. Next I put in a stock of an explosion. I scaled it [tools<transform tools<scale] I zoomed in around 600% [you can see the % at the bottom of your window] and erased everything around his eyes.

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW13.png

13. Added more fractals and blurred lines from step 10:

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW14.png

14. I created a copy visible layer {[Edit<copy visible] [edit<paste] [right click the layer in layers dialogue and click "new layer"]} and then went [colours<brightness-contrasts] I changed the settings until I liked it.

15. I created another copy visible layer and sharpened it [filters<enhance<sharpen]

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW15.png

16. I created another copy visible layer and blurred it [filters<blur<gaussin blur] (settings: around 4) I erased everything but the background.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>MW16

17. Next I drew some lines with the rectangle select tool [tools<selection tools< rectangle tool]
what you do is add a new transparent layer [layers<new layer:click transparency]
on the layer you create a thin long rectangle, then you go [edit<fill with FG colour]
yyour FG colour should be white, if it is not....you can change it in the colours dialogue. [windows<dockable dialogs<colours]

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW17.png

18. Go [layer<new layer: check off "white"] Lower this layer's opacity to about 6% in layers dialog.

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW18.png

19. I added another "whisp like" fractal

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW19.png

20. Next I added a clipping mask and placed it near his head.

To make a clipping mask, make a cop visible layer {[Edit<copy visible] [edit<paste] [right click the layer in layers dialogue and click "new layer"]} and on that layer, select a box like we did in step 17 and then go [select<invert][edit<cut] you can move this mask with the move tool [tools<transform tools<move] you can also turn it [layer<transform<flip/whatever]

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW20.png

21. Next I made a copy visible layer and flipped the image [layer<transform<flip horizantally]

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW21.png

22. (you'll notice I added a small border but you don't have to yet) on a new transparent layer I drew some white over his glasses and set the layer to overlay.

23. Next is the lighting. There are tons of techniques out there, here is mine.

on a new transparent layer draw a gradient [tools<paint tools< blend] change the settings in the gradients dialog [windows<dockable dialogs<gradients] select the one that says "FG to transparent" I change my shape to "radial" in the tool box window but you dont need to.

I drew a small gradient coming from the corner to create my main light source

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW22.png

24. Create a copy visible layer ( we are still on lighting) and select the dodge tool [tools<paint tools<dodge/burn] make sure it's set on "dodge-highlights-exposure:50" in the toolbox window.

What I did is I traced where I wanted it to look like where the light was hitting my focal, I also increased the light in some areas.

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW23.png

25. I added a small image of some soldiers [file<open as layers] and put it to the right of my focal. I lowered the opacity to 50%...just for some extra "detail"

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW24.png

26. I created a copy visible layer and did the same thing as step 24, except here I just highlighted his face and made his eyes brighter

http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/jj122/alialex95/MW25.png

27. On a new transparent layer I drew a border with the rectangle select tool on the left side of the sig. I made the colour to match his eyes.
